Article by Ruth Amelung in Berlin; Thursday, Dec. 03, 2015.

Ranking amongst the largest projects in the field of contemporary art, the Moscow International Biennale for Young Art is returning for its fifth instalment in July 2016.

The Open Call invites artists aged 35 and under to submit work responding to this year’s theme .

The theme is calling for artists who are exploring, challenging and redefining the ever-changing structure of modern society and the subsequent ecological and personal impact, from within, using tools as multifaceted as modern life.

The deadline for the application is December 11, 2015.
For more information and to download the application, visit Moscow Biennale Young Art.

This year, for the first time, the Biennale has replaced the role of executive director with an independent commissioner, Ekaterina Kibovskaya and has made the decision to bring a curator from the same generation as the artists on board, Nadim Samman. Although significantly younger than his predecessors, the artistic director can hold his own, being editor of and having previously co-curated the 4th Marrakech Biennale.

Import Projects, which Samman is also co-director of, is hosting a conversation between both the commissioner and the curator on Monday December 7th, in Keithstrasse 10 in Berlin at 6.30pm, offering with a brief history of the Biennale and an introduction to this years’ theme. Interested artists are invited to join and ask any questions about the open call and selection process.
